Quartz-Green?

What is smooth, nonporous, and green?  (We are talking environmentally green, not the color.)

That’s right! Quartz! How is Quartz eco-friendly, you might be wondering?  Well, let’s take a look.  The extraction process does not include quarrying, so the process is not invasive, it uses materials that would otherwise be wasted, and it is approved by some of the top environmental institutions.

Here is a little background about this inexpensive gemstone:

  • Wikipedia definitionQuartz is the second most abundant mineral in the Earth‘s continental crust, after feldspar. It is made up of a continuous framework of SiO4 silicon–oxygen tetrahedra, with each oxygen being shared between two tetrahedra, giving an overall formula SiO2.
  • Inspiration Design Center’s definition– Quartz, when combined with a coloring pigment and a gooey resin binding agent, it is one of the most durable manufactured countertops on the market.
  • National Sanitation Foundation and the GREENGUARD Environmental Institute’s Definition- Quartz– a low emitting product that is safe for your kitchen and bathroom. The smooth surface also keeps the bacteria from forming in any nooks or crannies.

Once you have decided that quartz is the way to go, you will come across Silestone.  What is Silestone?

Silestone, is the leading producer of quartz surfaces and provides the most resistant, engineered material made of natural quartz and binding resins.  What else do Silestone countertops have to offer?

  • Durable
  • Scratch and scorch proof
  • Resistant to stains- do not absorb liquids
  • Smooth texture keeps the bacteria out
  • Huge variety of colors – check out our countertop page for the Silestone colors we offer! https://inspirationdesigncenter.com/countertops/

So go ahead and spill the wine!  If you are looking for a low maintenance countertop, Quartz is the way to go!
