Kitchen Cabinet Refacing and Painting

Many people consider the kitchen to be the heart of their home. The kitchen is the center for many activities: it is the place for quiet family dinners, not-so-quiet family game nights and early morning cups of coffee.

You might consider your kitchen to be the most comforting area in your home. Unfortunately, when it comes time to renovate, that same comforting kitchen can cause a great deal of anxiety and financial concern. We believe that a kitchen renovation does not necessarily have to cost a lot of money. You can have a “new” kitchen without breaking the bank by tackling easier projects and smaller scale renovations.

For example, kitchen cabinets are known as being the most costly home remodeling project. If replacing the cupboards is not in within your budget, one alternative would be to repaint, or reface the cabinets. Painting and refacing are not only inexpensive alternatives to cabinet replacement – they can also completely update the look of a kitchen.

To complete the cabinet transformation, consider replacing the old hardware as well, especially if it has become outdated and rusty. To begin with you will have to remove the doors and all the hardware. Be sure to mark the doors so that you know which door goes with which cabinet. If you are reusing the same hardware, put all handles, hinges and screws from each cabinet in a plastic sandwich bag. Be sure to mark each bag so that it corresponds to the correct cabinet.

Wash all surfaces with a mild soap and water. This is especially important when painting kitchen cupboards because built up grease and oils from cooking will prevent paint from adhering properly. At this point, it is preferable that you bring in a professional to complete the job. A professional will guarantee a newer and fresher kitchen that is still the comfortable heart of your home.
