The youngest of 6 boys, Jon is a life-long Minnesota resident, and was the 3rd generation of Ryan Family members to graduate from Rosemount High School…Jon’s grandmother was the first graduating class back in 1917. Being the youngest has its advantages, namely that the other 5 who came before him had already softened up mom and dad…what else could they have possibly seen that they hadn’t seen from the others? However, the experience growing up was more similar to the life of an only child than that of the youngest of 6; the first five were all born within nine years of one another, but there’s a 13-year gap between Jon and #5.
After high school, Jon moved on to Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa, where he earned degrees in finance and accounting. Other than a few miscellaneous high school jobs, Genz-Ryan and Inspiration Design Center has been Jon’s professional home for almost 25 years. In fact, his first job was as the janitor for Genz-Ryan. Jon’s parents both worked in the business, and over the years four of his brothers all worked in the company, though not all at the same time. Although Jon’s mother passed away more than three years ago, her influence can still be felt. She started the employee benefits program that we have in place to day. We still pay 100% of the premium for all of our full-time employees…family coverage). Jon’s father (Jack) is still living, but has not been actively involved in the business for years.
Jon and his wife of 15 years (this September 27th) Nicolle have 3 young children. Their twin boys, Kellan and Alex (AJ), will be 5 in November, and daughter Penelope (Penny) will be 3 in October. Life is very chaotic at their house with three under the age of five, and they look forward to the day when everyone in the house can wipe their own butt. The fall is College Football time, and you can find Jon either tailgating or watching University of Minnesota Football on TV Saturdays.
