Don’t be Tim “The Tool man” Taylor. Not every DIY project that sounds easy actually is easy. It may be time to stop telling yourself, “I can do this, no problem at all!” There are many DIY projects that you can accomplish but recognizing which ones should be left to the pros is always important.
Here are a few DIY pitfalls to watch out for:
Underestimating the complexity of the project
We’ve all been there. Do you have all the skills needed to complete the project? Think of all the tasks ahead of you and be sure you are capable of completing them.
Lack of tools needed
Do you have the specialty tools needed to complete the job quickly and safely? Remember, having the tools and knowing how to use the tools properly makes a big difference. That sander may be fun to use, but what happens when you lose grip of it?
Wrong materials selected
What looks like a good idea in your head, might not actually look good when installed. That stainless steel industrial sized fridge doesn’t even make it past your kitchen entryway and your granite countertops don’t match with your linoleum tile floor. Now what do you do? Your money is spent and your kitchen is incomplete.
Do you plan on having your remodel done before the family birthday celebration in a week? Having an aggressive timeline can be a disaster. Most projects take longer than expected. Unless you are taking a vacation from your day job, it’s important to keep in mind that you will be working on the project in your spare time after work and on the weekends.
With much of your focus being on choosing materials for the remodeling project getting the required building permits may have slipped your mind. Not meeting local requirements can be dangerous and pose legal problems.
At Inspiration Design Center our highly skilled design consultants will work with you every step of the way to help you stay on budget while creating the kitchen you’ve always wanted.
