What would you do without a sink in the kitchen? Obviously, you can’t have a kitchen without a sink! When it comes to picking out your basin and the type of material, you want to focus on what’s stylish but also functional.
Picking the right sink can be confusing, so here’s a look at the different types of sinks and materials that are popular right now. You can choose which one is best for your kitchen.
There are a variety of different materials to choose from, but the most popular are stainless steel, enamel-coated cast iron, solid surface and composite.
If you have solid surface countertops like granite or quartz, stainless steel would probably be best, because it can easily be undermounted, which makes it easier to clean. Stainless steel sinks are also the most durable material for sinks, but they can be loud if noise-absorbing materials aren’t around it. Enamel sinks are still popular in kitchens, but they can scratch and wear over time. Solid surface sinks are great for easy cleaning since they are integrated with your countertops. And lastly, composite sinks are a new style of sinks that come in various colors for a cheaper price. But, these sinks aren’t as durable and can be hard to clean.
In traditional kitchens, you’ll find a double-bowl sink. Since most homes now have dishwashers, the double-sink isn’t exactly ideal anymore. People wash most of their dishes in the dishwasher, but they still use the sink to hand wash large pots and baking sheets. An oversized sink, like a farmhouse or drop-in sink can add some flair to your kitchen and still be great for washing larger dishes that you can’t put in the dishwasher.
