Kitchen Trends That Are Like a Little Black Dress: Timeless and Classy

Kitchen remodeling isn’t like fashion – the trends don’t change as drastically each year. But, they do change over time, and with the new year quickly approaching, you might be thinking about a kitchen remodel.

When considering a kitchen remodel, there are some looks that are timeless, though, just like that little black dress you’ve had in your closet for years. Unlike leg warmers, pea green appliances or gaudy floor-to-ceiling wallpaper, these kitchen trends will last, so you can’t go wrong with them.

Colors

As far as colors for your kitchen, you can’t go wrong with white or neutral gray. According to houselogic.com, 67% of National Kitchen and Bath Association members said that white is their top choice for kitchens, especially in cabinets. White appliances are enduring as well, because they are much easier to clean than black or stainless steel.

Gray is another great color when done right. It does have a tendency to appear dreary in cold, cloudy climates, but pairing it with bold accent colors, especially reds and yellows, can make it warm and inviting.

Countertops

Quartz and granite countertops are at the top of the trends list right now.

Quartz is the leading contender and is one of the most durable and stain resistant countertop materials on the market. It has a smooth texture and finish, which doesn’t let liquids absorb into the material, keeping bacteria from forming on the surface. No sealing is needed for quartz countertops, because its surface is already durable and stain resistant. Unlike Granite, Quartz is not heat resistant.

Granite  is also popular, and generally less expensive than Quartz. Its natural beauty entices many homeowners, and each slab has its own unique look. Not only is it visually appealing, but it’s much more durable than man-made countertops like Formica or wood veneer. Granite countertops are highly resistant to scratches and heat.

Both materials come in a wide range of colors and patterns, so you’ll be able to find the perfect one to fit your style and that will withstand lots of wear and tear.

IDC offers both quartz and granite countertops in a variety of colors and styles. If you can’t decide which material is better for you, check out or Quartz vs. Granite comparison. Accessibility

Being able to easily make your way through your kitchen is a bigger deal than you might think. You might not give it a second thought until you start getting older, and suddenly that cabinet is too hard to bend over and open, or the microwave is too high.

Touch faucets, deep-pocket drawers and side-opening ovens are changing the kitchen game. These improve the functionality of your kitchen, and even though they are fairly new gadgets, they’ll be lasting investments in your remodel.

Lighting

When it comes to lighting, LED lights are the most energy-efficient (and most versatile) way to go. LEDs can be installed in a variety of places, like inside cabinets, along the base of the counter for night lights, and even between cabinets and countertops. They come in a variety of colors, too.

LEDs last about five times longer than CFLs, making them much more energy efficient. And, they don’t emit heat, so you can keep them on for extended periods of time without them getting hot or burning cabinets or walls. Investing in LED lights are a creative and worthwhile addition to your kitchen that won’t go out of style anytime soon.
